Ishinoko festival 2025

Every late summer since 2020, Takigahara — a secluded pocket of forest and farmland in Komatsu — becomes a three-day gathering of music, food, and art in the form of the Ishinoko festival. At its center, chefs from Japan and abroad cook in an open-air kitchen with what the land gives them: foraged plants, local technique, ingredients they didn't choose. The village runs on satoyama, the old practice of living with the surrounding land rather than against it.

As one of the festival's official photographers, this project set out to capture that exchange — a chef's own culinary language, learning to answer to a place that already knew how to feed itself.
